Copper Broadband Chorus Rural DSL Outages

Chorus has a significant amount of infrastructure offline. They are working to restore service as soon as it's safe to do so (and some restoration is dependent on local power).

  • Resolved for most customers.

  • We still have a number of Rural DSL customers offline. We are observing these slowly being restored and are keeping a close eye on updates coming in from Chorus.

  • From Chorus:

Significant rainfall and severe winds continue to cause extensive power outages, localised flooding and road closures due to debris and landslides impacting people in Northland, Auckland, the Coromandel and other upper North Island regions.

Forecasted weather could cause further flooding, slips and damage that may further impact Chorus' services throughout the week. We will continue to assess and monitor our network and carry out remedial activities where possible.

Our core network remains intact, however it is impacted by localised power outages. We are expecting delays for restoration in these areas due to this increase in fault volume, disrupted power and road access. Our service companies will update their schedules to make more restoration slots available in weather affected areas from Wednesday (after assessment of the workload and full impact).

  • Rural Wireless - Mangakino / Tirohanga / Whakamaru

Service is offline due to suspected wind damage.

  • Fixed damage caused by strong wind, service now restored.

  • We've been given the OK this morning to attempt access to the Whakamaru Lookout repeater. Next update by 5pm.

  • No safe access up the forestry track at present, the forestry contractor expects to begin clearing tracks tomorrow. Next update in 24 hours.

    Nationwide network outage

We're investigating a network outage affecting our network. Updates to come.

  • Resolved.

  • We're observing internet services being restored now.

  • Our primary link out of Tauranga has failed, presumably because of cyclone damage. We're having difficulties with our secondary link, but expect to have service restored within the hour.
